A rape victim from Ambedkar Nagar district surprised everyone as she climbed on an overhead water tank here, her second such attempt in months, pressing for the arrest of the accused.

The victim belongs to Mehrua police station area in the district, about 250 km from the state capital. The alleged rape incident happened some six months back, ASP (East) Rajiv Malhotra said.

"She had taken a similar step in June and had climbed on a water tank near the Shyama Prasad Mukherji hospital," he said.

The official said the police managed to pacify her and bring her down.

The victim has alleged that she was raped by three men in June this year, while one of the accused was arrested, the other two are still at large, police said.

The girl has been taken back to her village in Ambedkar Nagar, they said.

"Ambedkar Nagar SP has been contacted and he has said he will personally look into the matter," Malhotra added.
