Army was today alerted as the flood situation worsened in Barabanki even as light to moderate rains occurred at a few places in Uttar Pradesh.
Army personnel have been asked to stay on the standby to assist civil authorities in ensuring relief rescue of victims inundated by flood waters of Ghagra river, an official said.
Several villages have been inundated due to breach in embankment of Elgin-Charsari on the borders of Barabanki and Gonda districts.

"Ghagra is flowing over danger mark in Elginbridge and Ayodhya, whereas it is flowing near red mark in Turtipar in Ballia," a report released by Central Water Commission said.
"Sharda river was flowing above red line in Paliakalan and near danger mark in Shardanagar. Ganga was also rising and has crossed danger mark in Ballia," it further said.
According to the MeT department, Bareilly received the highest amount of 14 cm rainfall while Billari received 7 cm rainfall, Baheri, Rampur, Nawabpur 5 cm rainfall each, and Khalilabad, Idhauli, Thakurdwara received 4 cm rainfall each.
The MeT department has predicted rain or thundershower at few places over east UP tomorrow.
