In a follow-up operation after busting a terrorist module this month, police today claimed to have arrested a Uttar Pradesh resident in a joint operation with UP Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS).

Fatehgarh Sahib SSP Gurmeet Singh Chauhan said the accused was identified as Janpal Singh, a resident of village Rangana of district Shamli (UP) who was arrested in a joint operation with the ATS, Uttar Pradesh.

He informed that Janpal's name had figured in the investigation as the UP-based supplier of illegal weapons to the terrorist module.

The SSP said Janpal was produced before the Judicial Magistrate on September 25 and his police remand for conducting further investigations has been obtained up to September 30.

"His arrest reveals the inter-state linkages developed by the terrorist modules with procurement of weapons from Maharashtra and UP," he claimed.

The SSP said with the arrest of Janpal, the total number of arrested persons in the terrorist module has gone up to 16.

Fatehgarh Sahib police claimed to have busted a terrorist module on September 6 with the arrest of seven persons.
