UP: Robbers kill woman, injure husband

A 26-year-old woman was shot dead and her husband injured by three unidentified robbers on Panipat-Khatima highway in the district.

The incident took place near Ghari Deshraj village under Titawi police station last night when the Haryana-based couple were returning on a bike from Muzaffarnagar to Panipat district, SP Rural Alokpirya Dershi said.

The robbers intercepted their bike and robbed them of Rs 16,000. When the couple opposed, they opened fire on them, killing Deepa on the spot, the SP said.

Her husband Jiwa (28), who sustained bullet injuries, was rushed to district hospital in a serious condition.

Police have started investigating the matter but no arrest has been made so far.
