UP: Sharda, Ghagra rivers flowing above red mark

With several parts of the state receiving rains rains, rivers like Ghaghra and Sharda were flowing above the red mark, officials said.

The Met office here said that light to moderate rain or thundershowers occurred at many places in the eastern region and at a few places in the western districts of Uttar Pradesh.

A report from Gonda said that Ghaghra has crossed the red mark and its water had entered Nakhara, Kashipur and Gaura Singhna villages.

DM incharge of Gonda, Divya Mittal, said that 19 relief chowkis have been activated in Colonelganj and flood units of different departments have been posted and asked to take all necessary precautions.
 

Principal secretary irrigation, Suresh Chandra inspected the Elgin-Charsandi dam and the relief measures and directed the officials concerned to take all precautions.

According to the Met officials, the amount of rainfall received in Aligarh, Dhampur, Bareilly was 5 cms each while Tarabganj, Zamania, Akbarpur, Patti and Thakurdwara areas received 4 cms each.

The forecast is that rain and thundershowers are likely in the state tomorrow, they added.

The Central Water Commission said that Sharda at Palia Kalan in Kheri was flowing above the red mark and Ghaghra at Barabanki and Faizabad is rising menacingly.
