'UP SHRC received 8 complaints on riots'

Four months after the riots in Muzaffarnagar that claimed over 60 lives, the Uttar Pradesh Human Rights Commission said it has received eight complaints which were being processed.

According to an RTI reply, the SHRC received eight complaints in connection with the violence in September last year that left thousands homeless, and it said the complaints were being processed.

The National Human Rights Commission received a complaint from International Human Rights Council, after which it asked for a report, the RTI reply said.

The state minorities commission asked for "factual report" about the riots, while NCM chairperson Wajahat Habibullah wrote to Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, Minorities Minister K Rahman Khan and UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on the issue, it said.
