Teachers of Kasturba Gandhi girls schools in the state today staged a demonstration in front of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, demanding removal of pay anomalies and improvement in working condition.

With the administration's efforts to pacify them failing to bear any fruit, police used mild force to disperse the protesters, who disrupted traffic on the busy Vidhan Sabha Marg for nearly two hours.

Shyam Krishna Dwivedi, President of the Kasturba Gandhi Avasiya Balika Vidyalaya Shikshak Shikshadetar Association, UP, alleged that despite repeated assurances, no decision in this regard has been taken by the state government and the teachers have not received honorariums for past 12 months.

He further said their honorariums have also not been revised for past five years.

The teachers handed over a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister regarding their demands to the district authorities.
