The Uttar Pradesh government today decided to write to the Centre demanding inclusion of 'Pond' 'Namasudra' and 'Pondra' communities under the Scheduled Caste (SC) category.

The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, an official spokesperson said.

The cabinet also decided to give relaxations to handicapped persons in stamp duty for registration of properties. Different slabs have been fixed as per the rate of property for relaxation of stamp duty, he said.

In yet another significant decision that would give fresh lease of life to non-licenced district cooperative banks, the state government has agreed to give them financial support for getting licence from RBI.

For timely completion of Lucknow Metro project, the cabinet has decided to purchase land from the owners on mutual agreement basis.
