UP traders to protest against proposed GST law

A traders body has said it will stage protests from August 15 against proposed GST law, which, it claimed, would create hardships for small and medium traders.

A delegation of Uttar Pradesh Udhyog Vyapar Pratinidhi Mandal (UPUVPM) will meet UP Chief Secretary of Commercial Tax to exhort him to send a memorandum to the Centre over "shortcomings" in the GST bill, an official of UPUVPM said.

Traders will protest against GST bill from August 15 to September 6 to press for their demands and memorandums will be submitted to Prime Minister, Finance Minister and all parliamentarians, UPUVPM president Banwari Lal Kanchal said. He claimed that the GST in present form will create hardships for small and medium traders and will favour only big business houses of the country.
 

Parliament recently cleared the Constitutional Amendment Bill for GST paving the way for roll out of the biggest tax reform from April 1 next year.

The GST regime would subsume various levies like excise, sales tax and octoroiand others.
