UP: Two drown in flood waters, toll reaches 292

Two persons drowned in the flood waters today in Jalaun district of Uttar Pradesh, taking the death toll in the state this monsoon to 292.

Light to moderate rain and thundershowers occurred at isolated places in the state, with Kakrahi and Bansi receiving the maximum 4 cm of rainfall each, followed by Shahjahanpur 3, Neemsar 2, and Padrauna, Maharajganj, Pharenda, Nazibabad 1 cm each, the MeT Department said.

Except river Ghaghra at Ballia, all major rivers in the state maintained a receding trend but many of them were still flowing above the danger mark.

Ganga at Ballia, Sharda at Palia Kalan, Ghaghra at Turtipar, Rapti at Birdghat, Budhi Rapti at Kakrahi and Quano at Gonda were flowing above the danger level, a Central Water Commission report said.
 

According to the relief commissioner's office, two persons drowned today in separate incidents in Jalaun district of the state, taking the toll in the state in flood and other rain-related incidents to 292.
