Tension prevailed at the village Gurusikhran in Harduganj area in the district after police failed to arrest the four unidentified persons who allegedly gang raped and killed a 17-year-old girl two days ago.

All shops in the village remained closed today while agitating villagers staged dharna at the police station, last evening, demanding arrest of the accused.

They were protesting against the "indifference and undue delay" by the police response in helping the victim's family after her body was recovered.

DIG, Aligarh Division, Govind Agarwal told PTI that the station officer Ram Kumar Gupta has been removed from duty and sent to police lines, for negligence.

Three separate police teams have been formed to nab the four unidentified culprits, he said, adding that over a dozen youth have been picked up so far for questioning.

Meanwhile, district BJP President Deoraj Singh, who visited the village yesterday, said that the incident showed the poor law and order situation in the state.

He warned that his party would launch an agitation if the culprits were not nabbed soon.
