The veteran Akali leader said, "Before taking such illogical decision the leaders of UPA government must have peeped into their conscience to search how they have brought the beleaguered peasantry of the state on the brink of economic disaster by hiking the cost of agricultural inputs."
The Union Cabinet had on Thursday, while announcing the MSP for several foodgrain items, decided to defer the decision on wheat saying further consultation would be held in this regard.
Badal said that the UPA leaders owe an answer to the farmers that how much increase in the prices of diesel and fertilisers had been made by them in their regime starting from year 2004.
"This reflects the sheer insensitivity of the Union Government towards the issues pertaining to the farmers of the country in general and that of Punjab in particular," he told reporters here on the sidelines of a function.
The chief minister reiterated that non-fixation of MSP on wheat "speaks volumes of Congress led UPA government's complete insensitivity and its apathetic attitude towards the plight of the beleaguered farmers who were already in distress due to low returns on their produce despite exorbitant cost of agricultural inputs incurred by them."
He asked the Centre to be honest and fair while deciding the issues relating to peasantry rather than "politicising it." MORE
