"There is an unseemly hurry on part of the government to get FDI in multi-brand retail. Hasty decisions on this sort of matters will not help. The BJP will not be in a position to support," BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said.
She said the BJP has made its position very clear that this (FDI in retail) cannot happen till the infrastructure is created and concerns of small farmers and retailers are addressed.
Before bringing FDI in retail, issues of connectivity and infrastructure development are to be taken care of, she said.
"Neither are the connectivity works being completed... nor are the concerns of small farmers and traders being addressed. There are very critical issues still pending," the BJP leader said.
She also accused the Centre of ignoring the recommendations of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Commerce.
"UPA has been repeatedly saying the Rajya Sabha Standing Committee on Commerce has submitted its report, which was not even put up for discussion by this government," said Sitharaman.
