Upamanyu, Hussain lead 420 class

National champion Upamanyu Dutta, with crew Hussain Arsiwala, won five of the six races in the 420 Dinghy Racing Class at the 2nd edition of the Festival of Sails, one of the selection trials for next year's Asian Games in South Korea, here today.

Pushing him hard is younger brother Aryaman Dutta and crew Xerxes Bamboat, who finished in second position in five races and won in one, to lie in overall 2nd position in the races being conducted in the waters off the Gateway of India.

In third place is the all-girl ream of Diya Correa and Zara Arsiwala.
 

The Festival of Sails is the country's largest genuine multi-class regatta with races being held in the 420 Dinghy Racing Class, an Asian Games class, the 470 Dinghy Racing Class, an Olympic class, Match Racing, sailed on 24-foot ocean going yachts with a 5-man crew, and Laser 4.7 Radial, Full Rig, an Olympic class yacht.

With prevailing wind conditions light to medium, the constantly shifting patterns are challenging the sailing skills of all teams.

420 Racing (overall): 1. Upamanyu Dutta and Hussain Arsiwala, 2. Aryaman Dutta and Xerxes Bamboat, 3. Diya Correa and Zara Arsiwala.

470 Racing: 1st Race (1. Chandra Shekhar and S R Rout, 2nd Atul Lande and Mahesh Yadav, 3. Mahendran V and Subham Patel); 2nd Race (1. Mahendran V and Subham Patel, 2. S C Singha and Jayhari Das, 3. Pawan Kumar and Sukhen Sur); 3rD Race (1. Pawan Kumar and Sukhen Sur; 2. Chandra Shekhar and S R Rout, 3. Mahendran V and Subham Patel); 4th Race (1. Pawan Kumar and Sukhen Sur; 2. Atul Lande and Mahesh Yadav; 3. Chandra Shekhar and S R Rout); 5th Race (1. Atul Lande and Mahesh Yadav, 2. Mahendran V and Subham Patel, 3. Chandra Shekhar and S R Rout).
