UPPCL has liabilities of Rs 26,659 cr: Shivpal

Uttar Pradesh government today said that the UP Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has dues of Rs 26,659 crore to financial institutions.

"UPPCL has liabilities of Rs 2,6659 crore of which Rs 14,965 crore has been owed by the state government and rest would be paid by the corporation," Cabinet Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav said in a written reply to a question of BJP member Suresh Kumar Khanna in Assembly.

He said the state government would issue bonds in favour of banks to pay its share.

Yadav in reply to another question by a member said that the state government had incurred a loss of Rs 11,000 crore due to power theft, line loss and other reasons.
 

He said in order to prevent losses in future Union Energy Ministry has started financial re-organisation scheme, which would also be implemented in the state.
