The upper age limit for direct recruitment in government jobs in Uttarakhand has been reduced from 40 to 35 years following an interim order of the state High Court.

An order to this effect was issued by Chief Secretary Subhash Kumar here yesterday, official sources said.

This age limit for direct recruitment in government jobs in the state would remain in force till the final order of the High Court, they said.

As per Uttarakhand Recruitment Rules, 2004 the upper age limit for direct appointment in government jobs in the state was kept at 35 but on August 30, 2012 a notification was issued by the state government amending the rules and increasing the upper age limit to 40.

On December 10, 2012 there was another amendment in the rules under which the upper age limit for Uttarakhandis was kept at 40 and at 35 for candidates from outside.

The amendment was challenged in the High Court which cancelled the notification terming it discriminatory.

After consultations with legal experts, the Chief Secretary issued a notification keeping the upper age limit for direct recruitment in government jobs at 35 till the final order of the High Court.
