Alleging "laxity" on part of the government over the hooch tragedy, opposition members Monday created ruckus in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly and demanded resignation of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, leading to adjournment of the House during Question Hour.
As soon as the House met for the day, opposition members tried to raise the matter, with
SP and BSP MLAs trooping into the Well of the House and raising anti-government slogans.
Parliamentary affairs minister Suresh Kumar Khanna said the government has taken stern action in the matter and those involved in the tragedy, that struck Saharanpur and Kushinagar districts last week, will not be spared.
The opposition members also raised slogans "CM istifa do" (CM should resign).
Speaker Hriday Narain Dixit repeatedly urged the opposition members to go to their seats. But when they did not relent, the Speaker adjourned the House for 30 minutes.
The state government on Sunday night announced a probe by a special investigation team (SIT) into the incident.
The five-member SIT has been specifically asked to find out whether there was any conspiracy and also to review past incidents, and submit its report within 10 days, suggesting measures to stop recurrence of such incidents, an official spokesperson said.
