The murder of a research scholar in Agra stalled the proceedings of Uttar Pradesh Assembly today, with opposition BSP members seeking to corner the government over law and order situation in the state.

On March 16, 23-year-old Neha was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her laboratory at a private educational institute in Agra.

The girl's body bearing multiple knife marks was found laying in a pool of blood, with her hands tied behind her back.

Raising the issue through an adjournment notice, BSP MLA Dharampal Singh termed the mysterious death as a matter of "serious concern".

In his reply, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mohammad Azam Khan termed the incident as unfortunate, but said not only the government, the members of main opposition (BSP) should also "feel ashamed" as before SP, it was their party which ruled the state.

The BSP members, however, termed Azam's statement a bid to divert attention from the issue and shouting anti-government slogans, they trooped into the well of the House.

Failing to convince the agitating members, Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey adjourned the proceedings of the House.
