The decision to scrap the language paper from the Union Public Service Commission examination was a "preferential treatment" to those who know English, a retired IFS officer said here today.
"This is like giving preferential treatment to students who know English," said Pavan Varma, former IFS officer who is now an adviser to Bihar Chief Minister told PTI.
Varma, who was here to deliver a lecture, said the decision will leave regional language students in the lurch, and force them to shun the civil services.
