Agitated over "acute" power crisis in his constituency, senior JD(S) MLA Y S V Datta today threatened to resign as legislative assembly member if the problem was not addressed immediately.
Displaying in the assembly, the letter of resignation, which he had come prepared with, to the Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa, he said he was facing immense pressure from the people of Kadur constituency in Chikkamagalur district and could not handle the situation any more.
During the discussion on drought and power situation, he said, "I have been facing harsh words of the people, who are using all kinds of words against me, I cannot handle it any more.
"I have come with resignation letter if the government does not respond to the issue today."
Objecting to Datta's behaviour, the Speaker said, "This is not the way, suggest what has to be done and how the issue can be solved."
In response, Datta said he has shared the issue in detail with government and not received proper response.
"I want response from the government during its reply to the debate, by end of the day," he added.
As the Speaker directed him to suggest what has to be done to solve the power crisis in Kadur, Datta said tenders have not been issued to certain power lines and they have to be taken up immediately.
There was no progress with regard tothe sub-station granted seven years ago and it had to be taken upimmediately.
Earlier, Datta alleged that there was a lack of political will to fight drought in the state.
He said government had no control over officials, hence the situation had deteriorated.
Participating in the discussion, BJP leader Govinda Karajola demanded that crop loan be waived.
He also demanded that as horticulture crops like pomegranate, lemon and grapes have completely been destroyed in Bagalkote and Bijapur area, loan recovery should be stoppedfor three years, until farmers get their next crop.
