Upset with her husband suspecting her fidelity, a woman allegedly drowned her 23-day-old daughter in a bucket at Singanallur here and attempted to divert attention by raising a false kidnap alarm.
The 25-year-old woman, Suganya, was arrested today after she reportedly confessed to have drowned the baby in a water-filled bucket at her house last evening, police said.
The accused told police that her husband had suspected her fidelity and parenthood of the newborn citing difference in the complexion of the child and him, they said.
Holding the baby as the root cause for the quarrel between them, Suganya drowned her daughter. She then complained that the baby was kidnapped from the house, police said.
Following the complaint police rushed to the locality and carried out a search operation and found the body since the accused could not dispose it due to their presence, they added.
