Demanding release of dearness allowance installments on time and payment of arrears at the earliest, the employees of Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) today threatened a statewide strike.

Protesting at the UPSTRC Regional Manager's office here in support of their nine-point demand, UP Roadways Workers Union regional head Rajeev Tyagi said they would organise a dharna in front of the Lucknow headquarters of the Corporation before the statewide bandh.

Their demands also include lifting the moratorium on the recruitment of employees in the Corporation, stopping "illegal" operations of buses, and increasing the fleet of buses.

A letter with their demands, addressed to the Managing Director of the Corporation, was handed over to regional manager SK Banerjee.
