Cardamom prices rose by 1.47 per cent to Rs 1,405 per kg in futures trading today as speculators built up fresh positions amid an upsurge in physical demand in the domestic spot market.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom for delivery in April moved up by Rs 20.40, or 1.47 per cent to Rs 1,405 per kg in a business turnover of 3 lots.

Likewise, the spice for delivery in May traded higher by Rs 13.80, or 1.11 per cent, to Rs 1,254 per kg in 83 lots.

Traders said fresh positions created by participants, driven by uptick in demand at the spot market against restricted supplies from producing regions, mainly led to the rise in cardamom prices at futures trade.
