Amid upsurge in domestic as well as exports demand in the spot market against restricted arrivals from producing regions, cardamom prices were up by 1.26 per cent to Rs 1,481 per kg in futures trade today as speculators created fresh positions.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom for delivery in March shot up by Rs 18.40, or 1.26 per cent, to Rs 1,481 per kg, in a business turnover of 40 lots.

On similar lines, the spice for delivery in April was trading higher by Rs 11.90, or 0.80 per cent, to Rs 1,495 per kg in two lots.

Traders said building of positions by participants, driven by pick up in domestic as well as exports demand in the spot market against restricted supplies from producing regions, mainly led to the rise in cardamom prices at futures trade.
