Amid pick up in demand in the domestic spot market against restricted supplies from producing belts, cardamom prices shot up by 2.81 per cent, or Rs 29.20 to Rs 1,067 per kg in futures trading today as participants built up fresh positions.

Further, tight supplies from the major producing regions too supported cardamom prices uptrend.

At Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom for delivery in far-month January next year went up by Rs 29.20, or 2.81 per cent to Rs 1,067 per kg in business turnover of 39 lots.

Likewise, the spice for delivery in December traded higher by Rs 12, or 1.18 per cent to Rs 1,025 per kg with trading volume of 22 lots.

Analysts said fresh positions created by traders due to pick up in demand in the spot market against restricted arrivals from producing regions, mainly pushed up cardamom prices at futures trade.
