Amid pick up in demand in the domestic spot market against restricted supplies from producing belts, cardamom prices shot up by 2.01 per cent to Rs 1,120 per kg in futures trading today as participants built up fresh positions.

At Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom for delivery in September jumped up by Rs 22.10, or 2.01 per cent to Rs 1,120 per kg in business turnover of 46 lots.

Likewise, the spice for delivery in August contracts traded higher by Rs 19.70, or 1.71 per cent to Rs 1,170 per kg in 23 lots.

Analysts said fresh positions created by traders due to pick up in demand in the spot market against restricted arrivals from producing regions, mainly pushed up cardamom prices at futures trade.
