Chana prices rose 2.20 per cent to Rs 3,940 per quintal in futures market today as participants raised bets amid strong demand from dal mills in the spot market. At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, chana for delivery in March shot up by Rs 85, or 2.20 per cent, to Rs 3,940 per quintal with an open interest of 79,350 lots. Similarly, the commodity for delivery in April contracts was trading higher by Rs 85, or 2.18 per cent to Rs 3,977 per quintal in 43,140 lots. Analysts attributed the sharp rise in chana futures prices to fresh positions created by traders owing to upsurge in demand from dal mills in the physical market against restricted supplies from producing regions.
