Jeera prices rose by 0.63 per cent to Rs 16,820 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators created fresh positions after upsurge in demand.

Besides, tight stock positions on fall in arrivals from the growing regions, fuelled the uptrend.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in April traded higher by Rs 105, or 0.63 per cent, to Rs 16,820 per quintal with an open interest of 1,827 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in March edged up by Rs 70, or 0.43 per cent, to Rs 16,500 per quintal in 10,485 lots.

Analysts said fresh positions built up by participants on the back of pick-up in domestic as well as export demand in the physical market, mainly influenced jeera prices at futures trade.
