Prices of urad and arhar rose by Rs 50 per quintal at the wholesale pulses market today on increased buying by stockists on rise in demand from retailers.
Marketmen said increased buying by stockists on the back of rise in demand from retailers led to gain in urad and arhar prices.
In addition, weakening rupee which makes import of pulses costlier and hike in railway freight rates, supported the upside.
India imports most of the pulses from Burma, Canada and other countries.
In the national capital, urad and its dal chilka local moved up by Rs 50 each to Rs 5,250-5,650 and Rs 6,450-6,650, while urad dal best quality and dhoya traded higher by the same margin to Rs 6,700-7,300 and Rs 6,950-7,350 per quintal, respectively.
Arhar and its dal dara variety also gained Rs 50 each to Rs 4,300-4,400 and Rs 5,500-5,800 per quintal, respectively.
