Urad and its dal spurted by Rs 800 per quintal at the wholesale market today on increased buying by stockists even as the government took steps to curb soarging prices and boost supplies.

However, arhar and gram remained weak on steady improvement in supplies.

Traders said stockists buying on the back of upsurge in demand from retailers mainly attributed steep rise in urad and its dal prices.

In the national capital, urad and its dal prices spurted by Rs 800 each to Rs 10,000-11,000 and Rs 11,100-11,300 per quintal respectively. Urad best quality and dhoya followed suit and traded by a similar margin to Rs 11,200-11,800 and Rs 11,600-11,800 per quintal respectively.

On the other hand, arhar remained under pressure and lost Rs 700 at Rs 10,000, while its dal traded at previous level of Rs 12,000-15,000 per quintal.
