BJP leader and MP Narendra Sawaikar today said the Uri terror attack is an attempt to distract the Central government which is marching forward.

"Incidents like the Pathankot (attack) and today's (Uri attack) is nothing but an attempt to distract the Central government which is marching forward," the Lok Sabha member, who represents South Goa, told reporters here.

He said attempts in the form of terror attack are planned to ensure the country doesn't become a super power.

"Through such an attempt, militants are trying to weaken the country," added Sawaikar.

Uri, a small town located 103 kms north of Srinagar, woke up to heavy gunfire when four terrorists, suspected to be of Jaish-e-Mohammed group, entered the battalion headquarters of 10 Dogra regiment and killed 17 soldiers.

All the four terrorists were eliminated.
