Officials say one person has been wounded in a shooting at a college in Georgia, prompting nearby campuses and a hospital to be locked down.

Paine College spokeswoman Tonya Williams says the school is working with the Richmond County sheriff's office to investigate what happened today.

Sgt. Michael McDaniel tells WJBF-TV that at least one person was shot inside a building on campus.

Christen Carter, a spokeswoman for Georgia Regents University Medical Center, says the victim is in the hospital, but information on their condition isn't available. Carter says the hospital and Georgia Regents University's two nearby campuses are also locked down.

There was a shooting Sunday on campus. It's not clear if the two shootings are related.

Paine College's website says the private school has just over 800 students and is located about 225 kilometres east of Atlanta.
