Iran's "reckless" deployment of offensive rocket and missile systems into Syria aimed at Israel is a highly dangerous development for the entire Middle East, the White House today said, underlining that Israel has a "right to act in self-defence".
The response by the White House came after Israel accused Iran of launching 20 rockets from installations in Syria at Israeli military outposts in the Golan Heights.
Israel responded to that strike by launching airstrikes against dozens of Iranian targets in Syria. According to Israeli local media, the Israeli military said it was the most extensive Israeli strike in Syria in decades.
Condemning the Iranian regime's provocative rocket attacks from Syria against Israeli citizens, the US has strongly supported Israel's "right to act in self-defence".
"The Iranian regime's deployment into Syria of offensive rocket and missile systems aimed at Israel is an unacceptable and highly dangerous development for the entire Middle East," White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said.
"Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) bears full responsibility for the consequences of its reckless actions, and we call on the IRGC and its militant proxies, including Hezbollah, to take no further provocative steps," Sanders said in a statement.

The United States also calls on all nations to make clear that the Iranian regime's actions pose a severe threat to international peace and stability, said the White House Press Secretary.
"As the Iranian regime once again uses Syrian territory to attack Israel, America stands with Israel, our ally and fellow democracy, and strongly supports the Jewish state's right to defend her people," Senator Marco Rubio said.
"The United States should hold the Iranian regime fully accountable and impose severe consequences if Iran's forces or proxies harm the citizens of our nation or our allies in the Middle East," Rubio said.
