The US Consulate General here, which provides visa and consular services to Indian citizens in three States, will move to a new building by 2020-end.

The ground breaking ceremony to mark the construction of the New Consulate Compound (NCC) will take place in August. The complex will come up on a sprawling 12.3 acres at Nanakramguda here.

"We aim to complete the New Consulate Compound by October 2020 and move in during October-November 2020," Consul General Michael C Mullins said today.

"It will have special design to reflect the unique topography of Hyderabad. We will select a builder and sign the contract by September 30 this year. The Consular entry of the New Compound will be able to accommodate 1,500 to 2,500 visa applicants daily, with 52 interview windows and air conditioned interior waiting rooms," Mullins said.

"Our new consulate building will also be a world-class sustainable project employing passive and integrated design principles. The design achieves key ecological goals, and reduces energy consumption," he added.

The US Consulate currently functions out of Paigah Palace at Begumpet in Secunderabad. It provides visa and consular services to Indian citizens in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.
