At least three militants of a self- styled Islamic State group were killed and five others injured today in a US drone strike in Afghanistan's restive Nangarhar province bordering Pakistan.

The aerial strikes, by CIA-operated unmanned aircraft, were launched to target a militant compound in Nazyan district close to Pakistan's restive Khyber tribal region where Pakistani army has launched an offensive against the Taliban.

Three terrorists were killed and five others injured in the US drone strike which reduced the militants' compound to rubble, Dawn reported.

Last week, a similar airstrike in the same area killed at least 16 suspected militants belonging to the ISIS terror group.

Untill last year, Nazyan district used to be a safe haven for the militants belonging to the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan.
