US envoy calls on TN CM;discusses US-India bilateral relations

: On his first official visit to the city, U.S. Ambassador to India, Kenneth I Juster called on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami at the Secretariat here today and held discussions on US-India bilateral relations and economic development.

He was accompanied by Consul General, Robert G Burgess and senior Consulate officials, sources said.

Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary Girija Vaidyanathan and Finance department Additional Chief Secretary K Shanmugam were among those present on the occasion.

"Such an honour to meet @CMOTamilNadu Edappadi Palaniswami on my first official visit to #Chennai. Great discussion on #USIndia bilateral relations and economic development. #USIndiaTrade #USIndiaBusiness #first100 days", he tweeted.
 

Juster later visited the Ice House, which was a Centre for the US-India trade in the 1840s.

"On his 1st official visit to #Chennai, Ambassador Kenneth I Juster @USAMBIndia visited the iconic #IceHouse which was a center for #USIndia Trade in the 1840s", the US Consulate Chennai said in a tweet.

The Ambassador also tweeted on his visit to the Ice House and shared some pictures.

"A wonderful visit with #CGCChennai to the #IceHouse, which in the 1840s stored ice shipped from the US to #SouthIndia. A great example of the long history of US-South India trade.#USIndiaDosti #CulturalDiplomacy", he tweeted.
