The US today pitched for a strong and effective Indo-Pacific Economic Corridor for a prosperous South Asia in terms of connectivity and energy security.

"Economic connectivity in this part of the world is challenging. The governments of these countries and the private sector should work together for improving connectivity," Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, Fatema Z Sumar said at a session organised by CII and the US embassy here.

"US has interests in a strong and effective Indo-Pacific Economic Corridor to make the South Asian region prosperous as well as for increased connectivity and energy security," she added.

Sumar also expressed concern over the significant barriers of trade which the countries of the region faced when accessing global markets.
