US funds hospital in Sri Lanka's north

The US will provide a USD 525,000 for the construction of a new hospital in the former LTTE territory in Sri Lnaka's north.

The US Agency for International Development (USAID) has funded the hospital at Palai in the Kilinochchi district at a cost of USD 525,000 or Sri Lankan rupees 69 million.

The hospital will have 24 in patient beds and a pharmacy.

"This new hospital will have a significant impact on thousands of people living in the surrounding communities by offering accessible quality healthcare," Sherry Carlin, USAID mission director, said.

Sri Lanka has received wide ranging international support for rebuilding of the war-devastated infrastructure.
