US, Pak officials review Waziristan operation, discuss India

Senior US and Pakistani officials have met here and reviewed the ongoing military operations against terrorists in North Waziristan and recent progress in Indo-Pak relationship.

Syed Tariq Fatemi, Special Assistant to Pakistan Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, in a meeting with Deputy Secretary of State William Burns briefed the latter on his government's outreach to its neighbours and its commitment to maintaining cordial relations with all its neighbours, including Afghanistan and India.

In a statement, Pakistan's Embassy in Washington said, Fatemi briefed Burns on the ongoing operations in North Waziristan and highlighted the government's commitment to eliminate all terrorists from Pakistan's soil without any distinction.
 

Fatemi, also apprised the Deputy Secretary of State of the steps taken by the government over the last one year in implementing its economic agenda and shared the good progress made by Pakistan in achieving economic stability and investor confidence, the embassy said.

Burns, who was recently in India, hoped that the recent peace initiatives by India and Pakistan would help bring prosperity to the people of the two countries.
