Eight Pakistani girls and a soccer coach will participate in the exchange programme during September 11-22, said a statement from the US Embassy today.

"This Sports Visitor programme marks the first Pakistan and India dual country exchange. Sports diplomacy builds on Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's vision of 'smart power,' embracing the full range of diplomatic tools to bring individuals together to foster greater understanding," said Cultural Attache Brian Gibel.

During the 10-day programme, the players will learn about the United States through the lens of sports, interact with young American athletes and meet sports professionals.

The programme will include a series of intensive soccer clinics, conflict resolution workshops and disability sports sessions.

The group will join a soccer clinic with the DC United women's soccer team.

They will also participate in volunteer activity with the team's philanthropic organisation.
