According to a Treasury statement, in light of Mukherjee's candidacy for President of India and his expected resignation as Finance Minister, Geithner's trip to India for the next meeting of the US-India Economic and Financial Partnership, originally scheduled for June 27-28, has been postponed.

"Mukherjee has been an effective ally in the G-20 and a strong partner in deepening the economic relationship between the United States and India," the Department of Treasury said in a statement.

The meeting is expected to be rescheduled in the months ahead, the Treasury said.
