The US wants to see a reduction in tension in South Asia and an improvement in the bilateral ties between India and Pakistan.
"We want to see the tensions reduced, we want to see the two countries bilaterally work their way through this," said John Kirby, State Department Spokesperson.
"Violence, such as we've seen press reports today, certainly do not contribute to security along that border and in that region," Kirby said, adding that US Secretary of State John Kerry has been following the developments in the region very closely.
Fresh strains surfaced in Indo-Pak ties after Pakistan Rangers violated the ceasefire twice by resorting to firing and mortar shelling in the Akhnoor sector in which a woman was killed and six others, including two BSF jawans, were injured.
Pakistan recently claimed to have downed a "spy drone" belonging to Indian security forces.
The Pakistan Army claimed the drone violated Pakistani airspace and was being used for aerial photography near the Line of Control (LoC).
India rubbished the allegations, saying the drone appeared to be of Chinese design and is commercially available off the shelf.
"The photograph of the drone in question indicates that it is not of Indian design, nor of any UAV category held in the inventory of the Indian armed forces. It appears to be of Chinese design, and is commercially available off the shelf," Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar said yesterday.
