US warns China to avoid tensions in airspace

The United States has warned China against risking tensions in international airspace after Japan accused Beijing of "dangerous manoeuvres" above disputed areas of the East China Sea.

State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said yesterday Washington does not recognise China's air defence identification zone in the area, and said: "Any attempt to interfere with freedom of overflight in international airspace raises regional tensions.
