The family of a 40-year-old Indian man, who was mysteriously killed during Bahrain's unrest more than two years ago, has received over USD 159,000 compensation payout.
Stephen Abraham of Kerala, working as a security officer in the Almoayyed Group, was mysteriously shot in the chest in March 2011 while he was stationed at Awal Dairy on Budaiya Highway in the Gulf nation.
Both his wife Annie Abraham and her brother, Father K A Thomas, arrived in Bahrain from Kochi to meet Almoayyed Group officials, Indian Ambassador Dr Mohan Kumar and local church and community leaders, the Gulf News reported today.
"We had nowhere to go, no one to turn to and no one to help us," said Father Thomas.
"Company officials were a blessing. They worked very hard and they made sure we got compensation. We are very happy and thank the Lord.
The family received USD 159,000 (Bahraini Dinar 60,000) as compensation.
"The future of Stephen's family is now secure," he said referring to Abraham's two children aged between 10 and 17.
The family earlier received USD 2652.52 (Bahraini Dinar 1,000) as part of a life insurance scheme run by the Indian Community Relief Fund.
