Press Trust of India Lucknow
Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik today said that the word 'Honourable' should be used instead of the customary 'His Excellency' in addressing him.

Asking to do away with using 'His Excellency' or 'Mahamahim' before the gubernatorial name, a common practice since colonial era, he said 'Mananiya Rajyapal' or 'Rajyapal Mahodaya' must be used in its place.

"The Governor has said that during programmes being organised in the state and conversation between him and dignitaries, the word 'His Excellency' will not be used," a statement issued by Raj Bhawan said.

Traditionally, 'Shri', 'Shrimati' or 'Sushri' is used before the name.

Naik said in official comments, 'Honourable Governor' must be used in place of 'His Excellency'.
