South Goa District Magistrate has banned the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), commonly known as drones, in the district under section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973.
"There are no regulatory guidelines concerning the sale and operation of such UAVs. Due to its easy availability at affordable pries in the market it can pose a threat to the society and the country at large if its use is made by anti-social elements for terror-related activities such as drone attack, planting/carrying of explosives, covert operations, etc," an official release here said.
The individuals and organisations wishing to use drones for commercial purpose should be asked to register themselves with a controlling body to be established under the Civil Aviation Department and other authorities, it added.
