Vigilance Commissioner and former DGP of Nagaland, Besesayo Kezo, said that using the full potential offered by modern technology such as open government initiatives can help harness transparency.

The corrupt practice include kickbacks, bribes, nepotism, misuse of office, abuse of public funds, unfair decision in public procurement, unethical and unfair award of contracts for personal gains, he said during the observation of Vigilance Awareness Week by State Vigilance Commission yesterday.

"Unfortunately the collective psyche of the Indian society has started accepting corruption as a way of life and the cost of being corrupt in India is much less than the cost of being not corrupt," he said.

He expressed that corruption level has declined in metro cities like Hyderabad, Kolkata, Chennai due to successful functioning of e-governance project.

The biggest contribution of IT and ICT technology, he said, increases the productivity efficiency and transparency and brings down the cost of operations.
