Former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee today termed the use of pepper spray by an MP and the ruckus in Parliament as a blot on democracy and called for the strongest possible action including filing of FIR against the guilty member.
"What has happened is a blot on democracy. It has put our heads in shame. May be which party one may belong to, the expulsion of the MPs would be minimal. I think it should be followed up by a criminal complaint like FIR against the guilty and they should be adequately punished," Chatterjee told PTI.
Stating that it was "serious and shameful" that allegedly there were weapons like knife during the fracas in the House, he said that such happenings were taking place as a result of politics of confrontation, politics of enmity and hatred and politics of revenge.
