Utkal Alumina's initiative to promote local culture

As a part of Utkal Alumina's efforts to encourage, promote and preserve local tribal folk dance and culture, a two day tribal festival was organised by the company in Odisha's Rayagada.

As many as 22 teams from Utkal Alumina peripheral villages took part in Dhimsa Dance Festival and showcased their talent during the two-day extravaganza - "Ama Nrutya Ama Sanskruti" which concluded yesterday.

Out of them, five teams were screened as finalists who performed their colourful dances on the second and final day as well.

Campadara Dhimsa team bagged the first prize followed by Kuguput, Kodipari, Makapadar and Naktiguda villages, a company release said today.
 

Each member of the team was felicitated by the company with cash prize and mementoes.

Along with them, the teams from Bagrijhola, K Karol, Ladiguda, Naringjodi, Peringini, Gokulamunda, Kucheipadar, Lachuguda, Tharli, A Karol, Tikiri, Bilamal, Haridaspur, Jamuguda, K Siriguda, Kaliakana and Gaimundatunda villages also performed their dances.

On the second day, to provide an opportunity for local villagers to see other forms of dance of Odisha, renowned dance troupes like Nrutyangana, Odishi Dance Troupe - Bhubaneswar, Prince Dance Troupe, Berhampur, Mallakhamb Dance troupe, Puri, Vision Ghumura Dance Troupe - Bhawanipatna performed their colourful dances.

This cultural programme was witnessed by an enthusiastic gathering, mostly from the Kashipur and Laxmipur blocks.

Along with many other initiatives, Utkal Alumina has undertaken this unique initiative for societal development, the company release added.
