Senior IAS officer Utpal Kumar Singh assumed charge here today as the new chief secretary of Uttarakhand replacing S Ramaswamy.
A 1986 batch IAS officer, Singh was earlier posted on deputation in New Delhi as additional secretary in the ministry of agriculture.
He was relieved from his responsibilities at the Centre before completion of his deputation term following a request from the state government.

Singh has earlier served as the principal secretary of half a dozen departments in Uttarakhand including PWD, energy, personnel, higher education, agriculture and home.
Soon after taking over charge from Ramaswamy, Singh said he will try his best to meet the expectations.
